I saw a bank leaflets, boasting their current financial status and new services they are offering. It’s surprising to know that there green tips included and it is about how to cool the home during summer. It is a very timely tip, because it is summer now in the Philippines. Good tips like this should be spread out and not be thrown in the garbage can.
Green Tips
How to cool your home:
Starting to feel the scorching heat? Don’t let the rising temperature spoil the fun out of summer.
Here are cool tips to cool your home without harming the environment and jacking up your electricity bills:
• Use plants inside your home to keep the air cool and fresh with lots of oxygen.
• Install drapes or blinds to reflect heat away from the house.
• Use electric fans instead of air-conditioning units to lessen the damage to our ozone layer.
• Turn off unused lighting fixtures and appliances.
• Replace incandescent bulbs with fluorescent lights.
• Reduce indoor humidity by minimizing mid-day washing and drying clothes, showering, and cooking.
• Insulate your attic and cut cooling costs to as much as 10%.
• Paint your roof white to reflect the light and keep the inside cooler.
• Plant trees around your house. Daytime air temperature can be 3-6 cooler in tree –shaded neighborhoods. An aircon unit operating in the shade also uses less electricity.
• Avoid rock or cement landscaping. This increases the temperature and radiates heat to the house.
